Sanlam

“We’ve been on an empowerment journey for over 20 years, and it’s been a great story. And now, of course, Sanlam finds itself in a totally different scenario. Much more transformed, much more reflective of South Africa, and in 33 countries on the African continent.”

The partnership between Sanlam and Ubuntu-Botho (UB) was born out of a desire to make a difference in the lives of ordinary South Africans by building a premier black-owned and controlled financial services entity that would ensure that previously disadvantaged citizens had access to economic empowerment opportunities.

15 years on, the value created makes this one of SA’s most successful BBBEE deals with benefits to these UB shareholders having exceeded all expectations. Shareholders like Ncinci who’s used her dividends together with hard work and passion, to steadily grow her business, her profits and the opportunities for her family. And Lynette who is now invested in property and shares, actively growing her knowledge to optimize her long term wealth creation prospects.

But beyond the systemic impact of Ubunto-Botho, Sanlam’s role as a responsible corporate citizen extends to a vast array of interventions, including the flagship Blue Ladder Schools program, where their engagement on key priorities like maths, nutrition and infrastructure is providing the holistic support needed to give learners a headstart to a brighter future.
